Abraham S. Valentine was a noted iron-furnace master in Centre County, Pennsylvania. Rebecca, Mary Blanchard, and Henry (Harry) were among his ten children. Rebecca married Evan Pugh, first president of Farmers' College of Pennsylvania, later the Pennsylvania State University; Harry succeeded his father in the iron manufacturing business.
